bio.

Born in Mildura, Victoria in 1984, and completing VCE in 2002 I went on to study and work as a Graphic Designer. I always admired the aesthetics and creativity of computer-aided design. After feeling trapped of not being able to include my own personal feelings and attachments into my work I moved into Youth Work and Protective care in Melbourne’s northern suburbs in 2006. It was at this stage that I started exploring Art therapy and Psychology. I then returned to Mildura, Victoria to compete my Bachelor of Visual Arts with Honours.

My work continues to explore male sexuality and identity through a various array of mediums from painting/drawing, video/photography and installation. I try to evoke questioning within the viewer to make them aware of situations, which may be alien to them, allowing them to see it from a different perspective. Many people are grounded by religion and taught beliefs that often we don’t question why we do not agree with something as our minds are already made up. My work centers on the impact of being a homosexual in today’s contemporary society.

My work has always been influenced by sexual politics, domestic objects and the [gay] male gaze within a rural community.

Currently, I am researching the impacts in institutional and domestic transitional spaces from boyhood to manhood; questioning the influences of family, society, sexuality, and gender consumerism while looking at my own childhood development and transition of what it is to be a man? Are contemporary men repressive or empowering of or by the tradition of masculinity?
